Red State Virginia - Conservatism Across Virginia
  • Garrisonville District Special Election April 3rd (2012/4/2)
A special election is set for Tuesday April 3rd to elect the next Garrisonville District Supervisor.  This seat was formerly held by Mark Dudenhefer who was elected to the Virginia House of Delegates this past November. My support, and the support of many area TEA Party patriots is behind Ty Schieber.  Ty is a former Marine, Vice President of a high tech company which employs 200 people in Stafford County and member of the school board.  He supports the ideals of that have made this country great, among them are limited government and individual responsibility. If you live in the Garrisonville District, please vote on Tuesday, April 3rd.  If not but know somebody who does, please remind them of this most important election. Click here for more information on Ty Schieber. Dennis P.S. Th...
  • Karen Kwiatkowski turns in signatures | Challenges Goodlatte (2012/3/29)
Great news! We turned in our petition signatures, paid the state fee ($3480.00) in Richmond, and are on the ballot for the June 12th Republican Primary! In 79 days, and for the first time in 20 years, Virginians in the 6th District will have a constitutional conservative choice for their U.S. Representative! Thank you for making this happen! Y our precious donations made it easy for us to pay Richmond for the privilege of running this race.  We've also been spending on media, ads, campaign materials and signs -- and we need your continued generosity to purchase more needed ads, signs and mailings.  Thank you so much for your past contributions of time, energy, ideas, hard work and money to our campaign.  We feel like winners already -- and now the race is moving into overdrive! We have...
  • Softball Questions: IRS Intimidation of Tea Party Groups (2012/3/29)
Below is an email I sent to Congressman Boustany’s office. Neal Patel was kind enough to send me clips of the hearing with IRS Commissioner Shulman. I am writing to ask your assistance. Please take the time to thoroughly review the piece in Right Side News I have included. Hyperlinks in the letter show actual copies of the IRS letters. It is well researched and factual. Then tell me why Commissioner Shulman was served up softballs by our side. When are we Republicans going to ask the tough questions? When will we start boring down on the over-reach of this administration’s bureaucracy? Can you assist in bringing this intimidation into public view? Neal, First let me thank you again for keeping us informed of this issue as it plays out. Only when we keep each other informed and are hone...
  • George Allen not on Senator DeMint’s list of conservatives (2012/3/29)
Email from Jamie Radtke: Yes, you heard that right! The story just broke three hours ago in the Washington Examiner and is titled, “Allen not on DeMint’s list of conservative Senate candidates.” Senator DeMint agrees with us. Sen. Jim DeMint singled out four candidates in Senate races across the country that he believes would help push the upper chamber and Republican Party in a more conservative direction. Absent from the list of those DeMint specifically targeted: Virginia’s Republican frontrunner George Allen. In fact, DeMint was critical of Tommy Thompson, the former Republican governor of Wisconsin who served as President George W. Bush’s secretary of health and human services. DeMint said Thompson was a “good guy” but they didn’t need another member of “retired go...
  • The United States of Lawlessness (2012/3/29)
It would appear that the United States has become a lawless country and I’m not sure that one could look at the events of the last 3 years and conclude anything else.  Lets take a walk down memory lane for a moment shall we. During the 2008 elections, two thugs from the New Black Panther Party stood in front of a polling place in Philadelphia in an effort to intimidate voters.  Thug 1 was holding a stick or a bat of some type while thug 2 stood there and looked stupid.  The incident was caught on video, and brought to the attention of Eric Holder’s Justice Department. Nothing was done in what was a clear case of voter intimidation. After assuming office, our dear leader began appointing czars to implement policy.  Not one or two but in excess of thirty!  These czars are accountabl...
  • Richmond’s “K” Street Problem (2012/3/27)
A Letter To The Editor Submission: On the 6 th of March, Virginia had a presidential primary election. The Governor endorsed Mr. Romney, The Lt. Governor is his Virginia campaign manager and as a subsidiary of the establishment National Republican Party, it is difficult to believe that the Republican Party of Virginia did not look favorably upon Mr. Romney.             I do not challenge the statement of the Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia, that all of the candidates knew the rules and some just failed to achieve the minimum standard. The question therefore, is not if the resulting ballot and the subsequent allocation of state delegates were done in accordance with current law and RPV regulations, but rather, have these existing laws and regulations taken away from ...
  • Give Me Liberty, or Give Me ObamaCare! (2012/3/26)
The following is a guest post by Richmond Tea Party Chairman Joe Guarino. ---- An obvious play on Patrick Henry’s famous quote—“Give me liberty, give me death!”—this is the essential crux of the battle over the Affordable Care Act, a.k.a., ObamaCare.  Do we Americans desire the liberty on which our country was founded more than the police-state tactics of being forced to purchase a product against our will? Most Democrats, liberals, progressives, socialists, Marxists, communists, and fascists, along with most of the elite in big businesses, including the big insurance conglomerates, believe that all people breathing, living, and working on American soil should be required to purchase health insurance under government mandate and that this is more important than allowing these s...
  • History should be remembered not destroyed (2012/3/26)
The city Councilor of Charlottesville, Va.  Kristin Szakos wants to remove historical statues.  She wonders what others think about the Confederate Statues and what the statues portray to those visiting Charlottesville.  I wonder how the city would be thought of, if they removed the statues.  The Taliban in Afghanistan remove/destroyed history to suit their Muslim beliefs.  A centuries old Buddhist Temple was destroyed to erase the truths.  The City Councilor would fit in with the Taliban, wanting to erase history as she sees fit.   Since it appears Mrs Szako is not a native Charlottesville resident, possibly not a Virginian either, I would like to point out some Virginia History. Almost one hundred and fifty one years ago on April 4, 1861 the Commonwealth of Virginia held a State...
  • The Real Cause of High Gas Prices (2012/3/23)
Towards the end of the Bush administration, our government began printing money at a record pace.  That trend continued into the current administration.  Today we are experiencing the effects of this irresponsible policy. Inflation is here in a big way.  The price of groceries are up 5 percent since January with the cost of milk, eggs, meat and bread up 9 percent since the beginning of the year.  Inflation has touched each and every one of us, and that is no more evident than at the gas station where gasoline prices are through the roof and rising steadily. It is basic economics that the more there is of something, the less it is worth.  There is a reason after all that one of a kind items like fine art command such a high price.  These same laws apply to our currency.  Since there ...
  • Fauquier County Schools Superintendent Should Go. (2012/3/23)
As budget decision time for the Fauquier County Board of Supervisors nears, I wrote this letter to the Editor of the Fauquier Times Democrat. The focus of the entire county has been the school budget proposal put forth by Dr. Lewis, Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Lewis' proposed budget would increase the school budget by $5 million, and many feel it is primarily intended to fund controversial diversity and other social engineering programs that Dr. Lewis has implemented. After the 1 Feb letter by Dr. Lewis which was printed in the FTD I wrote a reply which was also printed in which I said this, “The Superintendent is attempting to enlist teachers and sympathetic citizens to force the BoS to do the dirty work of extorting more money from the taxpayers… “ After the recent Public Hea...
  • The Real Obama Record (2012/3/21)
Just last week, the Obama campaigns propaganda wing put out a 17 minute video which tells the story of all of our dear leaders grand accomplishments.  If you haven't seen it yet, save yourself the trouble because it is 17 minutes of bravo sierra which is fitting since that is pretty much what we have gotten from him for the last 3 years. Here is a video that actually tells the real story of the Obama presidency and his record of accomplishments using something known as facts.  The left isn't all that familiar with what a fact so this might be hard for some on that side of the isle to comprehend.  For the rest of us out there, this video brings back the not so fond memories of the past 3 years and reminds us just how critical it is to remove him from office in November. Dennis
  • Cowards and Fools (2012/3/19)
We are a nation of COWARDS. We let the federal government molest our children right in front of us while they sell us the foolish illusion of security. If you let the federal government touch your children, you are a coward. You do not deserve the liberty that our armed men and women have bled and died for. There is no excuse for this kind of behavior. Bow down to King Obama and lick the dirt from his boots. The ONLY proper response for a parent in this mans position is "You will not be touching my child today. I will not comply, and you should be ashamed to even ask."
  • Two Barrels Are Better Than One! (2012/3/16)
In the category of the best ways to tick off a liberal, two barrels are better than one.  That is exactly what the new firearm coming to the market by Arsenal Firearm has, two barrels.  Yup, a handgun with two barrels. From Arsenal Firearms: "To commemorate the legendary Colt 1911-A1 in the Centenary by making a true industrial market-ready double barrel .45 caliber pistol. We achieved success in the brief span of 6 months, after intense and round-the-clock 3D designing, stereolithographic modeling and parts machining." This AF2011 is basically two 1911's put together with the option of 2 independent triggers or 2 triggers permanently joined together.  This firearm has two 8 round magazines meaning when the triggers are joined, you have the capability to fire two .45 caliber rounds at t...
  • Richmond Democrats…Time To Get Something Done! (2012/3/13)
The Commonwealth of Virginia has just over 8 million citizens. Of those 8 million, just over 100 thousand are public sector employees. Police, teachers, fire fighters, and an untold number of other job descriptions. These employees work from some 249 separate state agencies. This 2012 General Assembly has made an effort to combine, reduce and eliminate some of these agencies. Be that as it may, none will operate for much longer if our Senate Democrat friends in Richmond don’t accept reality. They no longer have the majority in the Senate as a result of the people’s vote. Aside from the state funding requirements there are over 850 cities and towns inside of 95 counties state-wide. Each of these bodies have a block of County Supervisors or City Council Members, charged with providing pu...
  • Get Involved or Do Nothing… (2012/3/13)
By Scott Cooper I have felt since last summer, and I still believe that our Presidential nominee would not be decided until the actual convention in August in Tampa.  That being the case, there are two important points for my friends who don’t pay attention or engage until the last minute. 1. If you hope to have influence in that process, you need to get involved in the GOP at your local level.  If you are not yet engaged – you are running out of time.  In Virginia every locality is having Mass Meetings, where local leadership will be decided.  At those meetings it will also be decided which Delegates will go to our State Convention.  That will lead to the process of who will be chosen to represent you at the National Convention in Tampa.  Click here to learn about your localiti...

  • VFW Chides White House, Texas Governor for No-Show (2011/8/22)
KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 22, 2011 - The White House will not be sending a representative to the Veterans of Foreign Wars 112th National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, drawing harsh criticism and a rebuke from the leadership of the nation's largest combat veteran's organization. "The VFW has had a long-standing tradition of inviting the sitting president to address our convention. We want to know where he stands on veterans' affairs, and we want those remarks made in public and on the record," said Richard L. Eubank, the national commander of the nearly 2 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliaries. "When the President is unable to attend, it has always been customary for the White House to choose a high-level administration offic...

  • VFW letter: the debt deal's done, now what? (2011/8/2)
Dear VFW, Ladies Auxiliary and Supporters: The president this afternoon signed congressional legislation to raise the federal debt limit and reduce government spending. The larger question is now how this all impacts veterans, service members, their families and survivors. The measure passed by the Senate today and in the House yesterday will raise the $14.3 trillion debt limit by at least $2.1 trillion. An additional $500 billion could come in the fall, provided two-thirds of Congress approves. The final increase, expected early next year, would provide the Treasury enough borrowing power to pay its bills into 2013. The deal also calls for sharp cuts in agency spending --- about $917 billion over the next decade --- starting with a $25 billion reduction in fiscal year 2012, which begins O...

  • [2009/2/18] Sussex County Court House District
Sussex County Court House District - Excerpts from the Nomination of the Courthouse District for the National Register of Historic Places

The Sussex County Court House is a member of a significant group of court houses in Virginia directly inspired by the architecture of Thomas Jefferson. The masons and carpenters at the University were deeply influenced by Jefferson's designs and they carried his style over into their own work, examples of which can be found throughout the Commonwealth. Sussex Court House is not only composed of classical elements and proportions advocated by Jefferson, who felt that the Roman mode was eminently suitable for a young Republic, but it also exhibits the fine craftsmanship demanded by Jefferson of his workers.
