Red State Virginia - Conservatism Across Virginia
  • Not the Boss of Me (2012/1/27)
I was listening to the Mark Levin show the other day and a gentleman called up to argue with him about something.  He was a lib so I didn’t pay too much attention to what his point was or even if he really had one.  He did say something that I took notice of and so did Levin.  The caller referred to the President as “our boss.”  He wasn’t talking specifically about Obama but rather all presidents.  That my friends exposes a major problem with today's society.  The relationship between the America People and those we elect to represent us is grossly misunderstood. To that lib caller and anybody else out there who thinks like him, let me enlighten you as to the role of government.  We the people do not work for ANY politician, they work of us.  That includes the President of ...
  • A Great Night for Virginia Gun Owners (2012/1/27)
On Thursday night, the Virginia House Militia, Police, and Public Safety subcommittee #1 met.  The following bills have passed the subcommittee.  All are being strongly supported by the Virginia Citizens Defense League. (VCDL) HB 20, Delegate Wilt, protects the right of citizens to carry and transport firearms during a declared emergency. HB 22, Delegate Cole, requires localities to try to sell guns they are in possession of instead of just destroying them. HB 26, Delegate Cole, provides a $25 civil fine for failure to produce a CHP if demanded by a law enforcement officer. HB 375, Delegate Pogge, allows local government employees to be able to store their guns in their personal vehicles while at work. HB 940, Delegate Lingamfelter, repeals Virginia's One Handgun a Month law. In addition...
  • No Whining, Mr. Goodlatte! (2012/1/26)
Good people across the country and in the 6th Congressional District recently handed Bob Goodlatte a major defeat. Goodlatte had drafted, introduced, and co-sponsored the now infamous SOPA “Internet blacklist” bill. This lousy legislation contained assaults on the 1st, 4th, and 14th amendments – and Bob, who read the Constitution as recently as last January on the floor of the House, should have known that. Instead, members of Congress (mostly Democrats, and Bob), who had accepted millions from Hollywood, the pharmaceutical industry, and the auto parts industry, did what they were paid to do. SOPA, and the Senate version, PIPA, have both been stopped -- for now. The widespread and public revolt by real people who understand and use the Internet and its related technologies caused a m...
  • Best Intentions – Unitended Consequences (2012/1/26)
The January 11 th issue of the Fauquier Times Democrat contained an editorial entitled Conventional Wisdom. In it the editor delivered two very different stories. The latter part of the piece conveyed some great news for agribusiness here in Fauquier County. Having 10% of the wineries in Virginia, Fauquier is a leader in the state. In fact, we were informed that our county can look forward to receiving visits from some of the wine lovers who read Wine Enthusiast magazine since Virginia is in their top three national destinations for wine lovers. This is a great testament to our wine growers and of the ability of agriculture and government to work together. I hope the new Board of Supervisors will continue to allow this business to prosper. That being said, in order to get to this good new...
  • The Marshall Message – Light Bulbs – Clean Water Act (2012/1/26)
Friends, I've got two major legislative updates below. Both bills are very important and we need to contact our delegates on the committees listed below to make sure these bills become a reality. Thank you for taking the time to read through! - Bob VA Light Bulb Manufacturer and VA vs. EPA/Corp of Engineers My HB 66 would allow Virginia companies to manufacture and sell incandescent light bulbs only within Virginia despite the Federal ban on incandescent bulbs which will take effect next year. The federal ban was enacted on grounds that fluorescent lights were more cost effective. Under conditions of normal use the fluorescent lights wear out much faster than incandescent ones which are not affected by constant on and off use. (See http://freedomlightbulb. blogspot.com for problems with C...
  • Obama’s State of the Union: Just Another Stump Speech (2012/1/25)
Have you ever bought something that was a little pricey and then after getting home began to feel bad about doing so?  It’s called buyers remorse and I must admit that I have experienced it a time or two.   Tonight I am experiencing it again.  No, I didn’t buy something that I couldn’t afford.   Had I done that I could have returned it and gotten my money back.  What I lost tonight I can never get back.  Tonight I lost an hour of my life while I sat and watched President Obama deliver his third and hopefully final State of the Union Address. I decided to watch tonights speech hoping to hear from the President how he planned on reducing the massive deficit.  I hoped to hear a plan that would lead to the reduction of the burdensome regulations that are killing business.  I had...
  • Meals Tax or Cut Spending (2012/1/24)
Posted at www.campbellcountyrepublicans.com By: Kurt Feigel - Chairman Campbell County Republican Committee When most families realizes they are taking in less than they are sending out, they must step back and ask "What Now?" This seems to be an impossibility for most government officials. Those that are tasked with representing the people of their district, can quickly forget that and begin to see the people's money as their own. It's happening in D.C. so why not here too? Well for one thing we don't have a printing press. Campbell county can't just make more money out of thin air. So the solution? Well, if you are the majority of the County Supervisors( Pendelton(R), Falwell(R), Goldsmith(R), Puckett(R),Gunter(I), & Shockley(I) ) it is to institute a meals and occupancy tax. Effecti...
  • Ron Paul Action Figure (2012/1/24)
Say what you want about us Ron Paul supporters. We are nothing if not fanatically loyal. In the past action figures of presidents have been created. This is the  first of it's kind action figure of a presidential primary candidate. And I'll wager good money that it will sell out! “Unlike Barack Obama, this is the only way Ron Paul can be bought,” notes Revolution PAC. FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – NORTHBROOK, IL – January 23, 2012 – Revolution PAC Saturday unveiled a series of collectible action figures bearing the likeness of presidential candidate Ron Paul. The launch was made in conjunction with the super committee’s webcast of the South Carolina Primary results. The 12”, talking, limited edition action figures are available in two models – the “Commander-in-Chief” Paul, ...

  • Gov. Bob McDonnell’s 2012 State of the Commonwealth Address (2012/1/19)
Below is the text of Governor Bob McDonnell's 2012 State of the Commonwealth Address given on January 11, 2012.  In addition to the text you can watch the speech by clicking here . Mr. Speaker, Mr. President. Justices of the Supreme Court and Judges of the State Corporation Commission. Ladies and Gentlemen of the General Assembly, my fellow Virginians. My fellow Virginians. Good evening. It is both my duty and my privilege to join you on the set of Steven Spielberg’s epic feature film “Lincoln”, for the annual State of the Commonwealth Address. And I hope it’s alright with everyone that I invited your neighbors over. The First Lady, and four of the McDonnell children are here with us tonight. This is always a very special night, when the leaders of all three branches of government...
  • Diplomatic Carry (2012/1/17)
by Alan Korwin The Uninvited Ombudsman Officials travel armed. When a contingent of our officials visits any other country, they bring armed personnel in classic right-to-bear-arms manner. Life is dangerous and the ability to protect yourself is a reasonable and prudent thing, a fundamental human right of existence, a moral imperative. So they go armed. It's only rational. Hillary and similar bring along enough firepower that if some of their group go one way while some head off in another, they're both covered. The same is true in reverse. When an ambassador from Trashcanistan comes to the United States, discreetly armed bodyguards accompany the party at all times, "laws to the contrary notwithstanding." That's lawyer-speak for "their right to carry supersedes any other rules," or in pla...
  • Jobs, Unemployment, Government Schools and More (2012/1/17)
Dear Editor: I applaud your and Mayor Bratton's promotion of bringing a micro brewery to Chase City to use the well water we are no longer allowed to use, but just had to have a new pipeline to bring in lake water so new business could locate here. How about asking Council to stop charging old people more for our new water---since we are unable to work any of those new jobs pouring in? A teacher, lucky to have a job, complains that we old folks are getting raises while she isn't. All I've noticed is higher Medicare premiums and smaller checks. Food and fuel prices have doubled since we moved here. We can't work to make up the difference. Mecklenburg County teachers earn much more than average here. Teachers should lobby in Richmond for Senator Frank Ruff''s bill, to require 65% of school f...
  • Delegate Bob Marshall to Announce U.S. Senate Bid (2012/1/15)
The Ricmnond Times Dispatch is reporting that Prince William Delegate Bob Marshall will soon announce that he is running for the Republican nomination for the United States Senate.  Marshall answered "yes" when asked if he would be making it offical in the coming days.  Marshall has stated a website, bobmarshall2012.com but at the time of this writing, there was not activity on the site.  Bob Marshall lives in Prince William County and  represents the 13 district.  He was elected to the Viginia House of Delegates in 1991.  Bob's district encompasses parts of Manassas and Manassas Park,  Haymarket and Gainesville.  He is no stranger of the process as he sought the GOP nomination for the U.S. Senate in 2008 but was defeated by former Virginia Governor Jim Gilmore.  In addition to G...
  • Perry Ruling: Perry Denied (2012/1/14)
A Judge has ruled that the ballot will stand as is for the Virginia primary with Ron Paul and Mitt Romney as the only candidates in the presidential primary. In a 22 page ruling the Judge basically said that the Plaintiff's: Perry,Gingrich,Santorum,Huntsman waited too long to file their request for an injunction. The Judge said: "In essense, they played the game, lost, and then complained that the rules were unfair," Judge Gibney pulled no punches here: "They knew the rules in Virginia many months ago; the limitations on circulators affected them as soon as they began to circulate petitions. The plaintiffs could have challenged the Virginia law at that time. Instead, they waited until after the time to gather petitions had ended and they had lost the political battle to be on the ballot; ...
  • The Twelve Days of Assembly (2012/1/13)
From the Richmond Tea Party website. ---- The Twelve Days of Assembly On the first day of session, the Assembly gave to me: A budget that balances right (no gimmicks) 2 fewer agencies 3 thousand fewer gov’ment jobs 4 dollars less to hunt and fish 5 billion in cuts 6 more days to deposit funds 7 billion to help local govs. 80 billion in spending 9 weeks of bipartisanship (we hope) 10 million less in DMV fees 11 Congressional districts (drawn fairly) 12 billion less in hidden tax credits A budget that balances right (no gimmicks) -       The VA Constitution requires that Virginia operate with a balanced budget, but often this is accomplished with accounting gimmicks, sometimes from the governor.  Art. X, Sec. 7 specifically states that “the Governor…shall ensure that no expense...

  • VFW Chides White House, Texas Governor for No-Show (2011/8/22)
KANSAS CITY, Mo., August 22, 2011 - The White House will not be sending a representative to the Veterans of Foreign Wars 112th National Convention in San Antonio, Texas, drawing harsh criticism and a rebuke from the leadership of the nation's largest combat veteran's organization. "The VFW has had a long-standing tradition of inviting the sitting president to address our convention. We want to know where he stands on veterans' affairs, and we want those remarks made in public and on the record," said Richard L. Eubank, the national commander of the nearly 2 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliaries. "When the President is unable to attend, it has always been customary for the White House to choose a high-level administration offic...
  • VFW letter: the debt deal's done, now what? (2011/8/2)
Dear VFW, Ladies Auxiliary and Supporters: The president this afternoon signed congressional legislation to raise the federal debt limit and reduce government spending. The larger question is now how this all impacts veterans, service members, their families and survivors. The measure passed by the Senate today and in the House yesterday will raise the $14.3 trillion debt limit by at least $2.1 trillion. An additional $500 billion could come in the fall, provided two-thirds of Congress approves. The final increase, expected early next year, would provide the Treasury enough borrowing power to pay its bills into 2013. The deal also calls for sharp cuts in agency spending --- about $917 billion over the next decade --- starting with a $25 billion reduction in fiscal year 2012, which begins O...

The exemption applies to the building on the property and up to one acre of land. The veteran must use the property as his or her principal residence. The Attorney General’s opinion, issued July 15, 2011, clarifies the...
  • VFW Joins in Houston National Cemetery Censorship Lawsuit (2011/7/5)
KANSAS CITY, Mo., July 1, 2011 - The national commander of America's largest and oldest major combat veterans' organization is appalled over allegations of religious censorship at one of the nation’s national cemeteries, calling it a case of “bureaucracy running amok.” “This is a point in case of bureaucracy…or rather, a classic example of a bureaucrat running amok. In spite of VA policy, the cemetery director is making up her own rules and has imposed hurtful, unilateral restrictions of her own choosing,” said Richard L. Eubank, the national commander of the 2.1 million-member Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S. and its Auxiliaries. Texas-based Liberty Institute has filed suit on behalf of the VFW, American Legion, and The National Memorial ...

Sussex County Court House District - Excerpts from the Nomination of the Courthouse District for the National Register of Historic Places

The Sussex County Court House is a member of a significant group of court houses in Virginia directly inspired by the architecture of Thomas Jefferson.
